Weekly Parish Bulletin - October 22, 2023
PARISH NEWS • Letter from Our Pastor
We give thanks to God always
for all of you, remembering you in
our prayers, unceasingly calling to
mind your work of faith and labor of
love and endurance in hope of our
Lord Jesus Christ, before our God
and Father, knowing, brothers and
sisters loved by God, how you were
chosen. For our gospel did not come to
you in word alone, but also in power
and in the Holy Spirit and with much
conviction. Saint Paul has such a
pastoral sense. Can you imagine if
every day we started by giving thanks
to God and held all of our loved ones
in prayer? Can you imagine if we
really took the time to reect on what it
means to be chosen by God? Can you
imagine if we knew that not only are
we called and chosen by God but God’s
Spirit will strengthen you?? We would
have happier homes, stronger families
and each of us with live the Gospel with
a holy boldness – with conviction. We
would live as if we are simply blessed’
by a good and gracious God.
…Speaking of simply blessed, share
your story of God’s blessing by going
to: www.StAmbrose.us/Simply-Blessed.
Its an easy and meaningful way to
inspire others to reect on how they
also are blessed by a good God.
…You can feel the shift of seasons in
the weather this past week. Cooler
temps are here…and more on the way.
Many, many, many thanks to all who
participated in Blanket Sunday last
weekend. The Catholic Works of Mercy
Team will put them all to good use to
blanket those in need with the warmth
and love of the Lord. So many will be
blanketed by the warmth of the Lord
thanks to your goodness. They are –
we are – simply blessed.
…As the weather shifts, we are
also collecting gently used winter
coats and gear for kids and adults.
We need to collect thousands and
thousands… so please clean out your
closet and invite your neighbors and
family members to do the same. You
can bring them to the entries of the
Church or Parish Oce over the next
few weeks. They will be sorted and
distributed to those most in need in
the Clark-Fulton area of Cleveland. God
bless you for your thoughtfulness. All
of us working together will make
sure that thousands of kids/adults
get the winter gear they need. God
bless our Project Warmth Team for their
help in sorting and organizing this
important eort.
…Speaking of sorting, this Tuesday
is can sorting and bag packing week
to put together food for 425 families
in Cleveland. Many hands make for
taking care of those in need. Join us
at 4 pm this Tuesday in Hilkert Hall…
This past week the Thanksgiving
Team met to make sure all is ready
for our eorts to take care of over
9000 people this year. In order to
make this happen, we are going
to need 600 volunteers and 1100
turkeys. You can nd all the details
and volunteer information by going
to: www.StAmbrose.us/Thanksgiving.
We are simply blessed and called –and
chosen – to share the blessings with
others. Together we can make a
great Thanksgiving for all.
…As we roll into the end of October
– and Halloween – please join us with
your kids and grandkids next Friday
for our Trick n Treat extravaganza.
Its become a wonderful night for our
community. Come for great fun,
music, games, candy, and great
displays. Learn more about the event
and/or to RSVP go to: www.StAmbrose.
us/Trick-or-Treat.
…Speaking of candy, if you can help
make sure that all the kids get great
candy and treats at the Halloween
event, please bring the candy to the
doors of the Church by Thursday. We
would be so grateful for your help.
Even more, the kids will be thrilled.
…The Ukrainian Dinner and Chili
Cooko were both great events last
weekend. Thanks to all who planned
and all who joined in these special
celebrations.
…This weekend we celebrate the
Rite of Enrollment for both our
young people preparing for First
Reconciliation/Eucharist and our teens
who are preparing for the Sacrament of
Conrmation. Our young people need
the Lord and need to know the care
and support of their faith community.
Please keep them in your prayers. May
these know that they are chosen by the
Lord and loved by their parish family.
…Last week we were blessed by a very
important and helpful presentation
on the Mental Health needs and
challenges facing our junior high,
high school and college students.
All the data reveals how much we
need to work together with parents to
support our young people. You can
watch the presentation by going
to: www.StAmbrose.us/Mental-
Health. Part of the big challenge
is the lack of parental
(and grandparent)
understanding, and 61
percent of teens do not
feel that their parents
understand the emotional
challenges that they are
dealing with.
…We are blessed that the students
of Saint Ambrose School have put
together their own mental health
eorts called Sources of Strength.
Theres a team of students who have
been trained to help support their
peers.
…Please take some time to read
the information in todays bulletin
about Issue One and Two. It will lead
you to the website prepared by the
Ohio Catholic Conference of Bishops
and oers best information for your
prayerful reection. It is always
important to take the time to be
informed and reect on the Churchs
teachings.
…We need to fervently pray for peace
in our world. The devastation in the
Ukraine and Middle East should stir
our hearts to turn to the Lord. We
need God’s divine intervention. We
need God’s help and wisdom. We
need God’s protection. Fervently
pray for peace in our world….in our
country…in our hearts and in our
homes.
…If you are reading this online
remember that Saturday is Sweetest
Day. We have a wonderful parish
gathering on Saturday night starting at
5:30 pm. Come for heavy appetizers,
sweet desserts, beautiful and lovely
music, amazing people…..all in all a
great Sweetest Day at Saint Ambrose.
…Its a blessing to see the Simply
Blessed Yard Signs all over the city.
May it remind everyone to use the
autumn days to count our blessings.
The best way to give thanks to God is
to join together at the Table of the Lord.
Invite your blessed family and friends to
join you.
…Reect on Saint Paul this week. Allow
the second reading to the Philippians to
guide your actions and thoughts. Let’s
hold each other in prayer. Let’s give
thanks to God for all the blessings we
have received. Let there be peace on
earth, and let it begin with me. Take
care.

Solemnity of All Saints and All Souls
All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day make up the two-day celebration of the Communion of Saints –
those who are with God in heaven and those on their way to heaven. On the Solemnity of All Saints
on November 1, the Church celebrates those Christians who achieved spiritual maturity. It is a day to
venerate all the holy men and women canonized by the Church. The Solemnity of All Saints is a Holy
Day of Obligation; every time we go to Mass, we remember the Saints in a special way in the Eucharistic Prayer.
The following day, on November 2, the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day), the Church
remembers and prays for the faithful departed: our brothers and sisters who have died marked with the sign of
faith. Particularly, we pray for all the souls in purgatory. We remember those who have gone home to the Lord in the
past year(s) at our Mass of Remembrance. Families and friends are invited to this special Mass to pray and honor their
loved ones. There will be a special candle procession in which the deceased's names are read, and each family
receives a remembrance gift. A reception in the Mother Teresa Room will follow the Mass.
Our Mass times for All Saints are on October 31 (Vigil Mass) at 7:00 pm; and then on Wednesday, November 1 at
8:15 am, 12:00 pm, and 5:30 pm. We will also oer our monthly reconciliation between 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm that
day. Mass times for All Souls will be held on Thursday, November 2 at 8:15 am, and a Mass of Remembrance at
7:00 pm. All are welcome.

Important Things to Know
The Ohio Catholic Conference of Bishops urges you to learn
about the issues that are on the ballot this November. They
are important to all of us.
Issue 1- Vote NO to protect women, families, and
children. The Right to Reproductive Freedom with
Protections for Health and Safety, Issue 1, would
enshrine the "right" to abortion in the Ohio Constitution,
endangering the health and safety of women,
threatening parental rights, and allowing for abortion
through all nine months of pregnancy. Learn more at
www.ohiocathconf.org/protect.
Issue 2 - Vote NO to protect workers, children, and
communities. To Commercialize, Regulate, Legalize, and
Tax the Adult Use of Cannabis, Issue 2, would legalize
recreational marijuana in Ohio while threatening public
health and endangering children and communities.

Love to Crochet or Knit?
The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a beautiful extension of the
prayers, love, and warmth of those in our community.
Shawls are given to our newly baptized and to loved ones
who are on our prayer list. The ministry meets at 10:30
on Thursday mornings in the Lehner Center. Shawls
can be made sitting in the comfort of your home, or in
fellowship with the group on Thursday mornings. Please
consider joining this heartwarming ministry. Contact
Debbie McCready at DMcCready@StAmbrose.us for more
