prior marriage may be necessary. Please contact

program templates have a basic ceremony structure in them as

well as details about you, your groom & your bridal party. You'll

just need to go in & change the details to reflect your special

day. Use them as a guide & add your own spin to make your

day truly personal. The templates for half fold are easy to use

for simple wedding programs.

MARRIAGE CONVALIDATION: Couples in a civil or

non-Catholic religious union without our Church’s

explicit permission are not in a valid Catholic

marriage. They cannot receive other sacraments or

serve as Catholic Sponsors for Baptism and

Conﬁrmation. This situation is often easily remedied

by “convalidation”, a simple ceremony popularly

called “getting a marriage blessed”.

THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

brings about a change of heart through God's mercy and

forgiveness. Reconciliation (also known as Confession or

Penance) is a sacrament instituted by Jesus Christ in His love

and mercy to offer sinners forgiveness for offenses committed

against God. At the same time sinners reconcile with the

Church who is also wounded by our sins.

Confessions will be heard on the First Friday

of each month here at SJB before morning

Mass. Pope Saint John Paul II reminds us that

“Confession is an act of honesty and courage, an

act of entrusting ourselves, beyond sin, to the

mercy of a loving and forgiving God.”

LIVING ROSARY on Monday 10/28 at 6pm in the front

parking lot. In a Living Rosary, each participant becomes a living

bead of the Rosary. It’s a memorable & unique experience for the

whole family. Each person representing a bead of the

Rosary will hold a colored glow stick to illuminate the Rosary.

Everyone is welcome. (This event counts as an

activity for our Summer Faith Formation Students.)

Pope Francis has announced

that the Church will

celebrate a Jubilee Year in

2025, with the theme of

“Pilgrims of Hope.”

In preparation for the Jubilee Year,

Pope Francis announced a Year of

Prayer dedicated to rediscovering

the great value & absolute need for

prayer in one’s personal life, in the life of the Church &

in the world. Pope Francis is encouraging us to turn to

the Bible & spend time reading the Gospels. Keep your

Bible in a prominent place in your home. Try opening

your Bible at a random page & read a passage that

draws your eye. Take time to reflect on the passage,

read again, & reflect once more. Write down your

thoughts in a journal & reflect on the key themes &

thoughts! As part of this year of prayer, each week in

this Bulletin Space we will list a Bible Quote (just

the notation). You can read them at home & reflect

on these quotes as a family. During this year, let us

work together to deepen our commitment to prayer!

Shroud OF TURIN

Presentation:

Where are the images that you use during your

presentation from? What do they prove about Christ?

The images used are from a variety of sources but

many are from the Shroud of Turin Research Project,

Inc. the scientific investigation conducted in 1978.

I don’t attempt to prove anything related to the

shroud but rather to reveal key scientific & historic

facts & see where they lead.

I make no effort to prove the shroud to be authentic.

My position is that it could be.

Why should people attend your presentation?

“Shroud Encounter” is a fast-moving big screen

experience that explores one of the greatest unsolved

mysteries in the world.

This presentation comes highly recommended.

Book Club (A Novel Bunch), we’ll be reading &

discussing newly released, highly rated books

from a wide variety of genres. This month we

are reading ALL THE BROKEN PLACES by

John Boyne. We will meet on Monday 10/28

at 7:00pm in the Parish Center. Bring a dish to

share & the beverage of your choice. We'll eat & laugh & at some

point discuss the book. Even if you don't finish it, come & we'll fill

you in on the plot. Mostly we like sharing our favorite reads.

Recipe from Mary Dombroskie,

2nd place winner of the Festival Bake Off Contest

APPLE PIE COOKIES RECIPE

These apple pie cookies come packed with all the flavor of

classic apple pie with a buttery, soft, melt in your mouth cookie

bottom. They're such a fun twist on a classic and come together

much more quickly and easily than a homemade pie!

Make the apple lling:

In a medium skillet, combine butter, diced apples, brown sugar

& cinnamon. Place over medium heat & cook, stirring

frequently, until the butter & sugar melt & the mixture starts to

boil. If the mixture starts splattering, reduce your heat to

maintain a gentle simmer. Continue cooking until the liquid

reduces slightly & the apples have softened (about 5 minutes).

In a separate small bowl, mix together cornstarch & water to

dissolve. Pour the cornstarch mixture over the apples & cook,

stirring constantly, for another minute or until the sauce has

thickened. Transfer the apple lling to a heat safe bowl & set

aside to cool completely to room temperature before using.

Make the brown sugar cookie dough:

Preheat your oven to 350°F.

Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and

salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, combine butter and brown sugar. Using an

electric mixer tted with the paddle attachment or a wooden

spoon by hand, cream together until you no longer see any

sugar crystals and it has lightened in color. This'll take about 1

minute with a mixer set to medium speed or 2 to 3 minutes by

hand.

Add the whole egg, egg yolk and vanilla, and whisk to combine.

It's ok if the mixture separates and looks a little grainy!

Just make sure there aren't any large chunks of butter.

Add the dry ingredients, and fold together until you no longer

see any dry streaks.

Shape the cookies:

In a shallow bowl, mix together sugar and cinnamon.

Using a large cookie scoop, portion out 3 tablespoon sized balls

of dough and drop into the bowl of cinnamon sugar.

Toss to coat in the sugar mixture, then place on your parchment

lined baking sheet.

Repeat with the remaining dough, leaving about 2 inches of

space between each ball of dough on the baking sheet.

Use a measuring teaspoon or your thumb to push down the

center of each cookie to create an indent.

Fill the centers with about 1 teaspoon of your cooled apple

lling.

Bake the cookies in the center of your preheated 350°F oven for

10 to 12 minutes, or until bubbling in the center and golden

brown along the edges.

Cool the cookies for 5 minutes on the tray then

transfer onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Drizzle some caramel sauce on top if desired,

or serve however you like!

For the apple lling:

1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter

1 & 1/2 cups (160g) peeled,

cored, and diced Granny Smith

apples (about 1 to 2 medium

sized apples) *see notes

1/2 cup (100g) packed brown

sugar (light or dark)

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon water

For the thumbprint cookie dough:

2 & 1/2 cups (300g) all-purpose

flour (spoon and leveled)

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup (2 sticks / 225g) unsalted

butter (softened to room

temperature)

1/2 cup (100g) packed brown

sugar (light or dark)

1 large egg (at room temperature)

1 large egg yolk (at room

temperature)

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For the cinnamon sugar:

1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Although Halloween has been embraced by the secular world,

its foundations are rooted in Catholic tradition.

OUR ALL SAINTS DAY CELEBRATION

is scheduled for Sunday, 10/27 at the 11 am Mass!

Students and Adults are encouraged to come in costumes

depicting their favorite saint! All participants are asked to

meet in the Sacristy in costume by 10:45. Our Saints Parade

will be a part of the Entrance and Recessional Procession!

This is a great opportunity for families to spend time talking

about the saints. You might choose the saint your child is

named after or any other saint you all admire.

It is truly a spectacular family faith extravaganza!

Called "the greatest saint of

modern times" by Pope St. Pius X, Thérèse of Lisieux lived a hidden life

in a Carmelite monastery and died at only 24 years old. Yet, her "secret"

of sanctity has made her not only a great modern saint, but a Doctor of

the Church. She promised to spend her Heaven helping those on earth.

Her simple spirituality, humility, and complete trust in God revolutionized

the twentieth century. Over 100 years after her death, she continues to

inspire millions of people, help them in their lives, and draw them closer

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

gathers young children,

generally ages 4-8, for an age

appropriate experience of

sacred scripture. CLOW will

be offered during the 9:30 Mass on Sunday, 10/20!

We hear God’s word in an environment that is joyful for

children. Children are dismissed after the opening prayer

and gather in the Adoration Chapel to hear the readings

and a reflection on the Gospel. After a profession of faith

and intercessions, children return to Mass during the

offertory. Children receive a worship bulletin based on the

Gospel readings.

It’s easy to participate! Look for the CLOW Sign in the

Main Lobby of our church before Mass.
