CITY OF BOULDER
MUNICIPAL COURT
REVISED BOND SCHEDULE
Effective Date July 1, 2017
Presiding Judge, Boulder Municipal Court
Noteworthy changes to the bond schedule include:
Bond amounts have been reduced significantly to come into alignment with bond schedule for 20
th
Judicial District.
With the exception of parking citations, bonds will either be $50 or $100 as set forth in this schedule.
Bond amounts are not the same as fine amount for pay and close option. Look in pay and close box for fine
amount.
The “pay and close” fine amount for §6-1-17, Animal on the Mall Prohibited, is now $60.
Important Reminders:
“Pay and close” eligible 0 – 2 point traffic infractions remain $100. This means seatbelt violations are $100. 3 and
4 point “pay and close” eligible traffic infractions are $125.
Some cases involving an accident are eligible for “pay and close” tickets. If the original violation is “pay and close”
eligible, and the accident involved no injuries, no vehicles were towed, and all parties had insurance, then the
citation may be written as “pay and close” and an additional $25 should be added to the “pay and close” fine
amount. Please note that the DEFENDANT in a NPOI case should NOT be charged in municipal court if an
accident is involved (but an accident victim with NPOI may be issued a ticket into municipal court).
Please direct defendants to the court’s web page to make online payments for “pay and close” eligible violations.
(https://bouldercolorado.gov/municipal-court OR www.citepayusa.com)
Designated some animal-related violations to be marked “Mandatory Appearance” and “Check Eligibility.” This
permits court staff to review Defendant’s history of violations across multiple enforcement agencies and then post
24/7online information for the Defendant regarding ”pay and close”, when applicable, or appearance
requirements.
This schedule specifies which charges carry mandatory court appearances; they include (1) NPOI, (2) Some traffic cases
involving an accident, (3) Texting while driving, (4) Juvenile defendants, and (5) specified general offenses.
The fine for all 0 2 point traffic
infractions
(including seatbelt violations) is $100 and the fine for all 3 - 4 point traffic infractions
is $125. The fine for traffic
offenses
remains $300. Fines are doubled for speeding violations in a construction zone
and for
speeding offenses and any type of infraction in a school zone.
The bond for parking violations continues to be the amount printed on the ticket, but if no amount is printed on the ticket, the
bond will be $15.00 unless otherwise indicated on the attached schedule. The bond for any violation not specified in the
revised schedule shall be $15 for parking offenses, $50 for traffic infractions and traffic offenses and $100 for general offenses.
Pursuant to B.R.C. Section 2-6-14, all traffic infractions are penalty assessments (PA) unless otherwise indicated. Traffic
offenses are not penalty
assessments, except for Careless Driving. “Pay and close” (PA) tickets may be written only if: (1)
only
one violation has arisen out of the same episode (unless the second violation is a seatbelt violation pay and close”
is
okay); and (2) the offense does not appear to be an intentional or reckless violation; and (3) the police officer would not be
entitled to incarcerate the defendant under B.R.C. Section 2-6-18. Careless Driving may be written as
a “pay and close” at
the discretion of the officer. “Pay and close” tickets are reduced by 2 points.
Private property designations are noted throughout the bond schedule. Please see the “CAO Key column and
corresponding notation at the bottom of each page. If you have a question pertaining to enforcement, please contact the
City Attorney’s Prosecution Division at 303-441-3025.
Any officer may write any ticket as requiring a court appearance at any time based on his/her own discretion, attitude of
accused, nature of violations, dangerousness/severity of offense, or defendant’s previous criminal history.
