Civil Air Patrol Cadet Guide to Achieve the Community Service Ribbon
How to track your volunteer hours:
To track your hours you will need a detailed timeline of the hours you spent in community
service. Use the provided sheet on the next page to track your activity.
Which volunteer hours qualify:
Any tracked volunteer hours outside of Civil Air Patrol qualify. If your squadron plans and
participates in an official CAP-run community service activity, these hours do not apply.
How many hours are needed for each level of the Community Service Ribbon:
You are eligible to receive your Volunteer Service Ribbon after 60 hours of community
service, and a bronze clasp may be added for each additional 60 hours.
How to apply for the Community Service Ribbon:
Once you have fulfilled the requirements, you may fill out a CAPF 2a. Go to section III of
the form and check the Cadet Community Service Ribbon box. Fill out the rest of the form and
send it up your chain of command for your Unit Commander to award you the ribbon.
If you are unsure where to begin accumulating your hours, here are some examples of places to
volunteer:
Library
Animal Shelters
Adoption Centers
Homeless Shelters
Food banks
Disaster Relief Organizations
Church
Retirement Homes
Hospital
School
..or other places in your community.
