Dear Candidates and Parents,
Thank you for your interest in the 21-22 Braden River High School Dance Team. As a member, you can
show your Pirate pride through performances, competitions, and community events.
The qualifications to become a member are as follows: Maintain a 2.0 minimum GPA, you must have
pep and enthusiasm, want to be involved, enjoy performing, be ready to work hard, and ready to
assume the responsibility of representing BRHS!
**Dancing can be a truly rewarding experience, but it is also a large time commitment and can be
costly. This is a competitive team that requires earnest efforts and sincere dedication. We understand
that you would want to experience all of high school but when the its time to work we expect there to
be no distractions with other interferences. Be aware of these facts as you prepare to take on the
responsibilities of representing Braden River High School.**
Parents and Dancers:
If selected to be a Black Pearl Dancer, there are many specific responsibilities and obligations that you
and your child must assume in order to qualify and remain part of the team.
Parent Responsibilities:
● Read the entire packet and be certain that you fully understand the rules and regulations that
govern the Black Pearls and/or have asked the coach (via email above) to clarify any parts you do not
understand.
● Make sure that each form has been filled out completely and correctly.
● Attend the mandatory parent/student meeting
● Volunteer for fundraisers, events, etc. throughout the year
Dancer Responsibilities:
● Maintain a 2.0 GPA
● Represent BRHS in a positive way
● Arrive on time to dance team functions (including practices) with the correct clothing and shoes,
along with any other required materials
● Attend all practices and performances unless excused
● Participate in team activities, fundraisers and other events
o Dancers will perform at football games and basketball games
as well as the Talent Show, Yes We Can Dance, Dancing with the Pirates and 2-3
competitions.(If Covid 19 rules allow)

● Current Athletes of BRHS and Students who have tried out for 2020-2021 sports who has
already purchased the $25 insurance for the remainder of the Insurance year through June 30,
2021 do not need to re-purchase.
● Students who are new to BRHS or the athletics program MUST purchase $25 insurance (Checks
(made out to Braden River High School) or Cash) to cover
them for the audition process.
● Every student who makes the team, they will then need to re-purchase the full $50 insurance
for the 2020-2021 school year.**

Audition Rehearsal Attire: Dancers must wear any form fitting dance/workout attire for the
duration of audition week in addition to lightweight sneakers or dance shoes. If shorts are
worn, tights or leggings must accompany.
**No jeans,GUM, jewelry, or street clothes will be accepted**
Final Audition Attire: Same as rehearsal attire—BLACK ONLY. Candidates that wear
dance shorts MUST wear tights! Candidates may not audition with bare legs.
Returning veterans MAY NOT wear old dance team wear (t-shirts, costumes, etc.) to
rehearsals or auditions. Shirts MUST be worn over sports bras.
Each dancer will be responsible for bring back their assigned number each audition
day. Number will be given out on day one.

instructors during the week of auditions, this routine will be a large portion of your
assessment at tryouts. There will be a video link given at tryouts to practice at home ON

aware, though there is a final audition, dancers will be evaluated throughout
the course of the week.

Final audition Scoring & team creation:
o Scoring is private and will be shared with only the judges at the final audition.
o The Head Coach will have the final decision of whether or not an individual is placed on
the team (Coaches will refer to notes about candidates’ attitude, punctuality, and effort throughout the
week of auditions to obtain a coach’s score that will be added to the
individual score from the judges on audition day.)
o Final decisions are FINAL and non-negotiable.
o Dancers will be notified the night of Final Auditions VIA online posting of team.
o Veteran Dancers will audition with all rookie candidates. No captains, leadership roles are guaranteed
and will be decided by Coach Kelly and Coach Danny prior to Dance Camp
after consideration through summer rehearsals
Braden River Black Pearls Dance Team Constitution:
If an individual makes the team and chooses to follow through with participation for the 2019-2020
school year, they will be required to sign the team constitution, which states requirements for
participation, financial obligations, and ethics that uphold the standards of the team.
Insurance:
School insurance is required because new team members will begin rehearsals during this current
2020-21 school year as well as throughout the summer. It is also necessary for tryouts on campus.
Practice Schedule:
MANDATORY practices will take place after school beginning at 4:45pm and ending at 6:00pm on
Tuesdays and Thursdays in the BRHS Dance Room. Dates & times will be announced.
o We will continue to practice throughout the summer.
*Dancers will be notified of additional practice times or changes to the schedule at the Coach’s
discretion. Competition season will have additional practices added to the schedule. Parents/Guardians
and Team Members will be notified usually at least ONE weeks prior adjustment.
Dance Camp:
ALL team members will attend a MANDATORY dance camp this summer. Failure to go to
camp for ANY reason by any team member will result in dismissal from the team. Please
DO NOT tryout for the team if you cannot make this commitment.

Financial agreement Form
o Fundraisers: ALL TEAM MEMBERS are required to participate in all planned fundraisers to the
expected degree. Failure to do so will result in dismissal from the team. Optional fundraisers
will be considered as well to assist with financial obligations.
o All monies must be paid in full to receive access to camp or any items ordered by the
team.
o Please DO NOT let financial requirements keep you from trying out for the BRHS Black
Pearls; all funds can be raised through our fundraisers. However, any funds not generated
by fundraisers will be the responsibility of the dancer/parent or guardian to pay.
o Team members will be responsible for the following financial obligations in order to
participate (Amendments will be made to costs if needed at the coach’s
discretion—parents/guardians will be consulted prior to ANY changes being made):
o First Payments: A payment schedule will be given at the first team meeting on Tuesday,
April 20th, 2021. At this meeting a NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT of $350 will be due to secure
your dancer’s spot for UDA Dance Camp.
o Balances will be broken into 2 payments; Due May 7
