Webster’s yardage nears mark
Senior quarterback Rick Webster has
thrown for 440 yards in each of Hanover’s
last two outings. The combined 880 yards
mark the third-highest back-to-back passing
performances in school history.
Former Hanover standout Bob Burkhart
threw for 1,031 yards in consecutive games
during the 1987 season. He torched Bluffton
(OH) for 558 yards in a 40-37 Hanover
victory. The following week, Burkhart passed
473 yards in a 42-41 loss to Taylor.
Hanover’s offensive coordinator,
Terry Peebles, threw for 934 yards in a
two-game span during the 1994 season.
Peebles tallied 442 yards in a 42-13 win
against Manchester, then came back with
a 492-yard performance in a 49-42
triumph against Franklin the next week.
Webster currently ranks fourth in the
nation in individual total offense. He is
averaging 367.7 yards per game. Hanover,
ranks fifth in the nation in passing
offense with 368.3 yards per contest.
Russell leads nation’s receivers
Hanover senior wingback Mike Russell
was named to the4 D3football.com team-of-
the-week after posting 15 receptions for 131
yards and a career-high four touchdowns in
the Panthers’ 56-42 loss to Bridgewater last
weekend in Madison, IN.
The effort marked Russell’s second
straight week with 15 catches. He had set
career highs with 15 pass receptions for 200
yards in the Hanover’s 56-20 setback at
Washington & Jefferson Sept. 10.
Russell currently leads the nation with
12.7 receptions per game. He ranks fifth in
reveiving yards per contest with 146.0 yards
per outing.
He has scored at least one touchdown in
his last five games for the Panthers.
Nelson posts best Hanover outing
Sophomore running back Chan Nelson
was thrust into the lineup after a nagging
injury kept Corey Fogle
off the field against
Bridgewater last week.
Nelson responded
with a career-best
performance. He had
eight receptions for 118
yards and 12 rushes for
39 yards against the
Eagles. He also returned
four kicks for 80 yards.
Among his highlights was a 47-yard pass
reception early in the third period.

eight of the squad’s last 12 possessions
through two games.

who sat out last week’s game with
Bridgewater, gained 120 yards on 22

since the 1973 campaign. There are 77
players on the squad this season. There
were 66 on the 1973 team, which posted
an 8-1 record and won the Hoosier-
Buckeye Collegiate Conference title with
a 6-1 mark.
