ADMINISTRATION
COMMUNITY
Mission Vista High School is located in a suburban community approximately 25 miles north
of San Diego and is part of the Vista Unified School District, which consists of three
comprehensive high schools, an independent study program, two continuation schools, and
a virtual learning school. As a school of choice, Mission Vista serves students residing within
the district boundaries as well as a percentage of students who choose to attend the school
on inter-district transfer agreements from neighboring districts. The school serves a
community with a wide range of social, cultural, ethnic, economic, and educational diversity.
SCHOOL
Mission Vista High School is a public, comprehensive, dual-magnet high school. The school
opened in 2009 and currently serves 1,682 students. MVHS operates on a ?4x4? block
schedule, in which students are enrolled in eight classes per school year. The year is split
into two terms (fall and spring), and students take four different classes per term. Every
term-long class is equivalent to a year-long class, where students earn 10 full credits toward
graduation.
ACADEMIC INFORMATION
Mission Vista High School is a dual magnet high school with an emphasis in the areas of Arts
& Communication as well as Science & Technology. We offer a rich curriculum with a total of
nineteen Advanced Placement courses and twelve honors courses. Students also take
courses in core curricular areas as electives. These include such courses as psychology,
creative writing, a socio-political history of rock and roll, computer science, Project Lead the
Way biomedical sciences and engineering, speech and debate, discrete math , data science,
and more. The 4x4 schedule allows students to explore coursework that aligns to their
strengths, interests, and values, and our academic focus as a school is centered around
personalizing learning for students. During their senior year, students may take our site
capstone course, My Vision Personalized (MVP), in which they design, plan, and execute a
project that reflects selections of the learning they have mastered over their four years in
high school. In addition to the courses that we offer, students are able to take advanced and
special interest courses through concurrent enrollment within our district and at local
community colleges.
