Grade 12 Literacy
A few weeks ago, UBC announced that they
would be considering the Literacy 12 scores as
one aspect of admission.
UBC: Grade 12 Literacy Announcement
BC high school students graduating in June
2022 who receive a UBC offer of admission will
be required to demonstrate a Proficient level of
performance [ = 3] on the Grade 12 Literacy
Assessment to maintain their offer of
admission. This requirement must be
completed by June 30, and final results are due
by the end of July. Applicants who do not
achieve Proficient on the assessment will have
their offer of admission reviewed on a case-by-
case basis.
WGSS has checked with other institutions (e.g.
SFU, UFV, U of T, Waterloo, U of A) and no
other institution will be using the Literacy
Assessment for admission consideration for Fall
2022. Please note, as the Grade 12 Literacy
Assessment is a graduation requirement, all
institutions require the completion of the
Grade 12 Literacy Assessment for admission.
WGSS has scheduled Grade 12 students to take
the Literacy Assessment as follows:
S1 English Language Arts 12 .............. January
S2 English Language Arts 12 and
English First Peoples 12 ..................... April
Rewrite opportunity .......................... June
Students can write the Assessment up to three
times. Students may investigate more about
the Assessment here.
Student Transcripts
All Grade 12 students must have a Student
Transcript Service (STS) account to view and print
their final transcript. An account is also required
for post-secondary institutions to view marks when
students apply and/or to receive final transcripts in
July.
Instructions and videos are available in the
Transcript section of the Counselling website: LINK
Once students have applied to a post-secondary
institution for Fall 2022, the institutions will
contact students and provide a student number,
which the student will use to access the student
portal of that institution. The portal will provide
up-dates on the status of the student’s application
and will also provide direction on how and when to
self-report interim/final grades.
University Up-Dates
Simon Fraser University
Applicants for September 2022, SFU will not
consider the results of the Grade 12 Literacy
Assessment in the admission evaluation process
for September 2022. Applicants to SFU will be

approved grade 12 coursework. *
*with the exception of applicants applying for an
entrance scholarship, or to one of the following:

Energy Engineering program, or the School for
the Contemporary Arts. Students applying for

Planning a UBC Degree
Deciding what to study at UBC is a vital part of

and campus. Knowing which program you are
interested in can be helpful for planning, but
it’s not necessary to decide before completing
your application. Students can wait until after
their first year at UBC to choose their specialty.

Unique Law School Programs
University of King’s (Halifax)
King’s students who complete the Foundation Year
Program are provisionally pre-admitted to the
University of Calgary’s Faculty of Law. Provisional
admittance means students will have an advantage
in the applicant pool but will still have to maintain
scholarship standing throughout the remainder of
their degree at King’s and Dalhousie. King’s
students will still be required to write the Law
School Admission Test and prove their social
commitment though extracurriculars. Achieving a
scholarship average in FYP and subsequent
undergraduate degree will be deemed as meeting
the University of Calgary’s academic standards and
provisional admission to the law program will be
granted. A qualifying average will be recognized as
at least a B plus (3.3) in FYP and an A minus (3.7) in
subsequent years. Link to more information
Wilfrid Laurier University
Laurier’s Law Program provides an international
learning experience that is one of the first of its
kind for a Canadian university.
Students earn a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from
Laurier and a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree from
the University of Sussex, United Kingdom (UK) in
only six years. Participants in this program will be
exposed to Laurier's commitment to social justice
and global engagement and, as an added perk, an
LSAT score is not required for admission.
This program is available with the following
Laurier programs: Political Science and
Philosophy on the Waterloo campus and
Criminology, Human Rights and Human Diversity,
Humanities with Leadership Foundations and Law
and Society on the Brantford campus. Link to
more information
Laurier allows students to study law
internationally without the requirement to take
the LSAT and then come back to Laurier so they
can practice in Canada.
Ryerson University
Ryerson Law's Integrated Practice Curriculum is
designed to provide students with the theoretical
and practical knowledge required to launch
successful legal careers soon after graduation. As
part of Ryerson’s commitment to experiential
learning, students will receive hands-on
mentorship throughout their degree and work
with the latest technological innovations
redefining legal practice today.
Ryerson believes lawyers need real-world
experience to meet real-world challenges,
which is why their Juris Doctor (JD) program
includes a mandatory professional placement,
as well as immersive bootcamps designed to
teach students everything from coding to
innovative business skills.
