Grand Knight Message
Christmas Celebrations Brothers, December is upon us! I am sure we are all looking
forward to vacations and Christmas celebrations. I know that I am certainly looking
forward to taking some time to rest and enjoy quiet time with my family over the
Christmas break. November was an eventful month with the Presidential election. Supreme
Knight Carl Anderson asked in an article on Crux now website, that we as Catholics should ask
ourselves a question. In what way Catholics in America can in the future be a source of unity
and reconciliation, or whether we will be a cause of further division? One of our founding
principles being Unity, it would only be fitting for us all to pray for guidance and do our best
to be a source of Unity in this post-election time. Lastly, I wish all my Brother Knights and
friends, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Vivat Jesu, Jonathan Sargent, Grand Knight
Family and Knight of the Month
Sir Knight Angelo and Carol Cavone.
Our Family of the Month for December are instrumental in our youth activities. Brother Angelo and Carol
arrange our youth activities. These youth activities such as Laser Tag, Youth Halloween and Christmas parties.
These events are a large part of introducing young families to the council and the order. When they are not chairing an
event, they are volunteering their time and effort to make it a success for other Directors. Please help me congratulate
Angelo and Carol Cavone as our Family of the Month.
Sir Knight Frank Dougherty.
I am happy to name SK Frank Dougherty our December Knight of the Month. Frank continually supports the
charity efforts of the council. Frank regularly volunteers his time for Bingo, coordinates the PAA meal packing
efforts and the Thanksgiving meal distribution. These are valuable and important activities helping those in need in
our community. Frank is also an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. Please join me in congratulating
Frank as our December Knight of the Month.
Deputy Grand Knight
As we wrap up this calendar year, we are about half way through the Fraternal Year. In November, I sat down
with the other Council Officers and Chairmen and we planned out 2017 (both the end of this year and the
beginning of the next Fraternal Year). Without spilling the beans too much, I can excitedly say that there are
a lot of fun things coming up. But, it’s no secret that those fun events won’t work if you, the Brother Knight, don’t
attend, don’t assist, and don’t ask others to join us. As the old adage goes, “You get out what you put in.” As a Council
we traditionally do a fantastic job participating in events, both at home and throughout the State. Keep up the good
work as we turn the page to 2017 and enter the second half of this Fraternal year.
Vivat Jesu, John Edwards, Deputy Grand Knight

From the Faithful Navigator
Dear Brother Sir Knights and your Families,
Donna and I want to wish all Brother Sir Knights and your families a very
Merry Christmas. May you enjoy the spirit of the season and re-energize your
faith and compassion and mercy with family and friends.
During the hustle and bustle of trying to find the right kinds of gifts for under
the tree, we sometimes forget the true meaning of Christmas. For some, this
time of year is not always pleasant. Loss of a family member or a change of
financial situation may have an overwhelming effect to the enjoyment of the
true spirit of Christmas. We need to keep these folks and families in our
thoughts, prayers and merciful deeds. Remember the greater gifts of the season
cannot be put under the tree. You can’t wear them or eat them; or drive them or
play with them. We spend so much time on the lesser gifts, the toys, sweaters, and jewelry along with the stress of the
commercialization of Christmas, we often times miss out on the greater gifts - understanding, mercy, grace, and peace
of our gracious Lord.
The great gifts are like the one gift the gift that began over 2000 years ago, you can’t buy them, and they’re not on
anybody’s shopping list. They come as Jesus came - quietly, freely, and unexpectedly and, if you’re not careful you will
miss them entirely. If we let it, the holiday season can leave us empty, because when it’s over, the only reminders we
have will be the dirty dishes and the January bills. Don’t let that happen to you. Christmas is and should be that special
time for all of us, to ask God to bless our children, family and friends. Show them your love, compassion and mercy - -
that which brings love and joy to you and yours, not only at Christmas but throughout the year. Take the time this year
to remember your family’s story, find that special place in your heart for a person, place or event that will remind you
what Christmas is all about. I got this idea from a story that I heard a while back and I’m asking you to write down with
pen and paper a thought, idea, deed or expression or something that you would like your family to know about this
Christmas season. Then, put it in an envelope, then hang the envelope on your Christmas tree. Christmas morning open
it up and share it with your family. Create your story of love and faith that your family can share for years to come.
May you and your family enjoy the spirit of Christmas and share your joy, mercy, charity and fraternity with your parish
community see you on the 3rd of January for the Dining In and the Renewal of Obligations.
Donna and I wish you a Merry and Spiritual Christmas Season and a Blessed New Year.
Sir Knight Stephen Paul Raschke Sr., IPSD, Faithful Navigator, Father Bader Assembly 2430.
