Record Breaking Months Continue for San Antonio International Airport (SAT)
SUMMARY
In May 2024, the airport’s passenger numbers reached 974,078. SAT once again broke a
monthly passenger record with this May being the busiest in the airport’s history. The
previous record was set in May 2019.
2023 was the busiest year in SAT’s history with nearly 10.7 million passengers flying
through the airport’s two terminals. This trend has continued with May 2024 continuing the
record for back-to-back record-breaking months that started a year ago in May 2023.
Comparing the numbers to the year prior, the airport experienced a 5% increase in
passengers compared to May 2023.
Several airlines flew more seats to San Antonio this month than the same month in 2023.
The airlines with the largest increases in service year over year included Sun Country (SY),
Alaska Airlines (AS), Spirit Airlines (NK), Volaris (Y4), Viva Aerobus (VB), American Airlines
(AA), Delta Air Lines (DL), and Southwest Airlines (WN).
SAT made history in May with the launch of the airports rst-ever nonstop to Europe.
Condor Airlines (DE) operated their inaugural flight to Frankfurt (FRA) on May 17
th
. This
service currently operates on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through September 6
th
.
Additionally, a total of 20,909,813 pounds of air cargo moved through SAT during the month
of May 2024. This was in line with the levels seen during the same month in 2023.

UPCOMING CHANGES
Spirit Airlines (NK) will launch twice-daily service to Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW)
starting on July 10
th
. This will complement existing service to the Metroplex on
American Airlines (AA) to DFW and Southwest Airlines (WN) to Dallas-Love (DAL).
Holiday-seasonal nonstop service to Colorado Springs (COS) on Southwest
Airlines (WN) will resume on November 23
rd
. This service is oered on Saturdays
through January 5
th
and nearly daily during the week of Christmas and New Years.
United Airlines (UA) will add a second daily flight to San Francisco (SFO) starting on
September 26
th
.
DOMESTIC PASSENGERS
For May 2024, total scheduled domestic capacity, or seats, were up 6% compared to May
2023. Additionally, total domestic passenger levels were also up compared to 2023 by 4%.
Several airlines flew more passengers during May 2024 than the same month in 2023
showing continued growth in our market. These included Alaska Airlines (AS), American
Airlines (AA), Delta Air Lines (DL), Spirit Airlines (NK), Southwest Airlines (WN), and Sun
Country (SY).

INTERNATIONAL PASSENGERS
For May 2024, total scheduled international capacity, or seats, were up 18% compared to
May 2023 levels. Additionally, total international passenger levels were also up compared
to 2023 by 24%.
SAT ranked #1 among all U.S. medium-hub airports in terms of total seats to Mexico for May
2024. When looking at all U.S. airports, SAT ranked #12 between Seattle (SEA) and Orlando
(MCO). In terms of total international seats, SAT ranked #34 out of all 69 U.S. airports that
had international service in May.
